So another day and another dollar, or should I say another dollar spent. Ness has gone to the next stage of the interview process the medical part. I think she will start Friday, but she doesn't think till next week. We went for a drive to Charters Towers, had a great day. We went to the tourist information and got the self drive CD, it was great a bit of history and a tour of the town. Of course we did the usual tourist things coffee at Maccas.
On the way back to Townsville we went to Ravenswood. We both like Ravenswood. Had a drink at the hotel and read all about the the young girl who's father taught her to charm snakes. She was chosen to lead a street parade and in her basket was a snake, the snake popped his head out to scare her partner is just one of her stories. The sad part was the cemetery gates were chained and so we couldn't go for a wander.
Today we are off to the movies- Avatar in 3D.
To Dale and Jenni hope you found us.
Catch you all soon- I have put new photos on Facebook.

Whats happening? Nothing much.

Ness had a job interview last week- still haven't heard how she went, maybe Monday? We had a great day with Jarret and Vickie's children, took them to a indoor playground. Ness had a great time on the slide. Sometimes I think she forgets who is the adult. See the photo's on face book.
Today we are doing nothing much. Ness is washing and I have done the banking and emails so therefore spending time on the net. We have already posted father's day presents. We are always late or forget birthdays mothers day etc but for once we are a week early. We promise this won't happen again.
Scarlia is doing well. She is enjoying her time outside but waits near the door when she wants to go inside. She sits for food, Ness thinks she will teach her "wait" next. LOL cant wait to see that happen. We are still heading to Tassie for a year. Anyone knows of work lets us know, started to send out letters of introduction.

Election

Friday we went to the aquarium with the niece and nephew had great day.

Ness and I worked on Saturday at a polling booth. Started at 7.30am and finished just before 10pm. It was a long hot day and lots of annoyed people. Overall we found it very interesting. Can do without the counting and recounting times 3, we were missing 4 ballots. So don't ever throw away your ballot, put it in the box blank. Took all day Sunday to recover.

Should be leaving Townsville some time at the end of September but that depends on a few things. Stay in touch.

Roller Derby

We have had fairly quite week, after V8's last week and Brodie's third birthday party. Now we know what three yrs old want this year; trains trains trains and Chuggington which is a train. Ness got her forklift license, yeah! Painted Ness's brother's bathroom. That only took two day, a couple of hrs each day. Jarret and Vicky put on the second coat and it doesn't look to bad. Painted all the A frame of the caravan, cleaned out a couple of cupboards and today we drove the van to a repairer to get a couple of jobs done.
What else have we been up to- chasing up our certificates; trying to upgrade our qualifications- Ness Cert 1V in Disabilities and Me a diploma in Disability Work. Change our voting address and we have gone looking without trying for a job. One at the Mushroom Farm and the other at the electoral office for polling day. We applied for the polling office jobs just before Gillian announced the election. If we get something so be it.
Saturday was shopping day- Toni brought a new lawn mower and we browsered lots of shops. Saturday evening we went to the Roller Derby. Its like the movie, just not as violent and no Drew Barrymore. Its was a great night and you can get involved with the crowd yelling ohhing and aahhing. A big turnout for the night which was great to see and Ness got the T-shirt. Last night we had a BBQ at some friends of Toni's and Pete. Everyone had a good night- especially Ness and Brodie. Though Ness is feeling a bit stiff from chasing Brodie.
So thats about it for this week. Still planning Cooktown, have no idea when we will leave Townsville. So catch you all later. Michelle and Ness

V8's in Townsville

Voommmmm voommmm. Wonderful wonderful weekend. Ness was in her glory; breathing in those fumes, hearing lost due to the constant humm of the engines, glowing red from far to much sun but she had a great weekend. For the result- Holden on Saturday Ford on Sunday I know I will get into trouble for not naming the drivers but I don't know them!
We spent two long days at the track, very little alcohol but I do have to say the adult only slushes were very nice. Everybody went home on Sunday happy and a lot poorer.
I would tell anyone go to Townsville V8's. Plenty of food coffee merchandise outlets. Heaps for the kids big and little. Crowds were good overall and most of the racing was good too. And the best thing no waiting for the ladies!!!

Show Day in Townsville

Isn’t nice to be somewhere and it’s a public holiday, not a national holiday, only for Townsville. Monday was Show Day in Townsville, so Ness and I decide to go for a drive. We drove up the coast to find the “Brown Signs”.
Our first sign was Jourama Falls. A drive through the cane fields brought us to a small water crossing surrounded by trees. A lovely grass area with picnic tables and BBQs we continued along the road to another crossing and past the camping area, regretting we didn’t bring our camping gear. We park at the beginning of the walking trail. The walk was 3kms; first part was tar track even and a nice walk. Then it’s down some stairs and you climb over rocks crossing the creek, trying not to get wet feet. On the other side is sign 450m to falls. What they don’t tell you its uphill all the way- but it is mostly long steps so not to bad. We reach the falls and they were lovely. We stood looking at the falls and imaging what it is like during the wet season. Back to the car- with a wet foot, yes I fell slipped and wet up to mid calf. Back in the car and it was off to Tully.
A quick stop at Tully for coffee and a look at the map. We decide to go to Wallaman Falls, billed as the longest drop in Australia- 305m. We spent the drive trying to remember the height of a waterfall in Tassie- we couldn’t remember the name or how long the drop was either. The road was tar dirt and then tar again heaps of traffic, and of course the weather moved in rain and fog. We stood looking at the falls for about half an hour waiting for a break in the fog and of course get the photo. We got a couple of photos and now we were wet muddy cold. Lunch was in the car, no picnic’s today. Ness wanted to go back a different way. Looking at the map we could go back to the highway via Mt Fox Hidden Valley and Paluma. Yep we could still be out there; the Banjos were playing on the hills. The road was dirt and a number of hills, some of them were the pot holes. We have since been told that it is an area the army does training with live artillery. It is also a known area for a certain crop, we didn’t see any.
We finally reached Paluma. The fog was very thick. We made our way down the hill with a stop at Little Crystal Brook. It is very pretty even in the heavy rain. Another great day.
Today we did some work on the van, scrapping cleaning to prepare the A frame so we can paint when the weather is better. Toni (Ness’s mum) and Pete (Ness’s stepdad) are back tomorrow so we will make a trip to the Airport. Oh nearly forgot Ness starts her course tomorrow I think she is nervous. Catch you all later.

Back and back again.

Ok we are back- and its Sunday afternoon. Back to what we have been up to-We saw some beautiful rainforests and waterfalls in areas that are under World Heritage Listing. Unsure if this happened but I did read a while back that they were revising the lists, and wondered what was going to happen to some of our amazing areas like we visited in many regions. Ness and I took lots of photos but are hoping to go back in the next month.
We then travelled down to the Gold Coast- stayed in a lovely place in Gin Gin, NOT. It was noise due to all the trucks and way over priced. Don’t you love those places? Anyway we made it to the Gold Coast. We were there to surprise a friend from Darwin for her 50th Birthday. “Happy Birthday Cassie”. She didn’t recognise us when we turned up- it must be old age catching up. Enjoyed our time, did the shopping thing but didn’t buy much.
Went caravan looking, saw a really nice one made by a small local company, sort of in our price range but Ness liked the “Blue sky”. We will continue to look as we decide to keep the old girl a little longer.

We stopped at Rockhampton for two nights. Did a historical walk around town- love old buildings. We also went for a tour at Mount Morgan. The tour included a drive around the town, then a look at the closed down gold mine. The tour also incorporated a visit to the “Fire Clay Mine”, what makes it more unique is there are dinosaur prints in the roof of sandstone. They are different sizes, grouped and a single animal. The two hour tour had a bit everything, run by a local family daughter and father. We would highly recommend it to anyone who visits the area but do it soon as the mine is reopening and they are unsure what will happen when this takes place.

Our next stop was Bowen. Bowen was the site where “Australia” was filmed, so yes the buildings can be seen. We went back to the beaches, sunsets- Mother Nature is always calling. Our accommodation was a cabin in a small caravan park- suitable for what we wanted. The next day we did a little more sightseeing and then made our way back to Townsville.

Back in Townsville we decided to update our training. Ness is doing her Forklift licence next week and I am doing the Diploma in Disability Work. Ness has a lot more work than I have to do so in August I will be doing Training and Assessment Cert IV. With that sorted- It was back to what are we going to do next. No answer yet.

Ness and I took her niece and nephew to Townsville Show yesterday. We had a great time; we both felt that Alice Show was better. Sorry Townsville.

Anyway that brings us to today and today we are doing nothing. I think Scarlia is happy to have us back as she has been very cuddly lately. Catch you all later.

Finally got around to doing what I said I would!!

So what have we being doing; A lot some days and other days nothing. Ness, Toni (Ness’s mum) and of course me went for a weekend to Atherton Tablelands.
First stop was fuel- price isn’t to high and we then made our way up the coast. Then it was Tully and no, it wasn’t raining- Tully has the most rain days in the country and a big gumboot to tell the story of some of their biggest floods when you climb the steps to the top. We stopped at Paronella Park to have a look and lunch. The former home of a Spanish migrant, he built the place out of cement. He was inspired by castles of Spain. If anyone has been there will know the story and I wont spoil it for anyone who wants to visit. It’s a place you all should visit and when leaving ask for 12 month ticket that gives free entry, the night and day tours and a free night in the caravan park- yep we took the pass, as we want to return.
Back in the car and up the mountain, saw a brown sign for the Mamu Rainforest Canopy walk. We have done a few of these Canopy walks and this one was great. It was special for they have a tower (60 steps) that hangs over the valley, looking also down on the South Johnson River. A very nice way to spend a couple of hours.
We made our way to Cairns via Atherton- arriving later than expected at our accommodation to find they didn’t have anything available. Computer problems, after a lot of apologies and a few phone calls we all got back in the Landcruiser and found our new accommodation.
Next morning it was back up the mountain to have a day sightseeing. Lake Barrine- this is a pretty spot within the Craters NP, lots of walks and a lake tour available. We only had time to do a short walk to admire the magnificent trees. Oh I forgot and the ducks on the lake.
We made our way, on some very winding and narrow roads to the Hypipamee Crater then wandered down a track to the waterfall. It was a cool day so it was nice walking. It tried to rain but we were lucky only a couple of spits. Lunch was at the Mungalli Creek Dairy. Taste tested some of their cheeses- Macadamia Cheese is not something I would rush to find anywhere, and they say it tastes like chocolate yuk is the only description I would use. It was then search for good coffee but we stopped at the Crystal Cave shop in Atherton.
Coffee was found at Coffee Works. Lots of coffees to try and lots of chocolate. They have a great museum we didn’t know there was that many types of coffee pots.
I am going to finish this later as Ness is watching “Puberty Blues”- she has never seen it before.

Yes we are still around.

I am in the process of writing what we have been doing and what we have got up to in last couple of weeks. I know you are all waiting with a glass of something in your hand because its going to be a long blog.

Townsville

So we have made it to Townsville. Ness is enjoying spending time with her family. Its great to see them all.
We had a great run up the coast. Left Murgon stopped over night at Marlbrough (I think that's the name of the place) just north of Rocky and the next morning we spent some time with an old friend who occasionally his work sends him up this way. It was great to see him as it had been over 4 years. We arrived in Townsville about 5ish in the afternoon. The really funny thing was I think the cat had the best two days in the car for a long time.
This weekend we going up to the Atherton Tablelands, so will write more then. Catch you all later, Michelle and Ness

News Flash!!!

Breaking news has just reached me, I don't want to keep you all in suspense on what this extraordinary news is and as it has just come to my attention via Ness I am sure you are all sitting on the edge of your sit- WINDEX. Yes windex window cleaner, Ness has informed me that windex has removed the grease from her jeans and my tracksuit pants without removing the colour. I know you all want to race out and tell everyone so till next time. Michelle

Murgon

We are still in Murgon. I am writing this outside in the sun, which is lovely but not good to see the screen. Ness is doing the washing. We are going to Boat Mountain NP later and then go see my dad. The day before we drove to Gympie- I was told Gympie saved Queensland from ruin gold was found just at the right moment. Very hilly town and spread out. Like many country towns lots of empty shops in the main street. We drove around lost for a while then after going past the railway line a number of times we gave up. Of course that's when we found the main street,we parked and went for a walk. They still have a town clock that chimes the hours- so end our trip to Gympie.
Its funny how we can go to some towns and spend days looking/sightseeing etc and some towns nothing there is no pull, we cant find a reason to stay. Sorry Gympie you are one of those towns.
Yesterday we drove to Harvey Bay to see Red and Brian. We met them in Darwin. Stayed in contact via email, they stopped travelling to stay in Harvey Bay with their two dogs. We had a great visit it was nice to see some people never change. Hi Brian! We will be back in September.
My Dad and Bev came for a drive,so we were able to spend the day with them as well. This included having lunch at the Harvey Bay RSL- great fish. We haven't really spent any time in Harvey but being a popular place for family holidays I don't think we really need to go back. Did notice that at least it wasn't going up like the Gold Coast(yet) the highest apartments were 5 stories. We visited the beach- no whales. I nearly forgot we went looking at caravans, still leaning towards the "Supreme". One thing all 4 of us noticed at the two places we visited a lot of the vans have mouldy smell in the cupboards. A little more expensive that down south.
We will keep looking, we are also tossing around the idea about refitting the old girl and keep her a bit longer; not sure what we will do yet.
The caravan park was nearly empty when we left yesterday morning to come back to a different park there was vehicles everywhere. Campers caravans popups tents campervans, a club had descended on the park. A little closed shop as we are not part of the club last night around the fire, a bit more friendly this am. Don't know where from or anything, they have just left in a group so maybe we will find out to night.
Well I am off hope all the Sydneyites are staying dry, enjoy your day. Catch you later.

Caravan Park

Isn't it nice to find a gem in the rough. We are currently staying at a caravan park not far from Murgon. They advertise themselves as bush setting- which it is but more. They have open fire places and the manager every night lights a biggish fire that most people sit around and discuss all sorts of things. Its quiet with lots of birds, the sites are close to each other but not too close and good size. We think they havent been here long for they told us its a work in progress. The amenties are clean and the hot water is good. The bathroom has a few little home touches like fresh flowers tissues and hand towels not paper towels. We are recommending this little park to all. Oh forgot its called Barambah Bush Caravan Park and its pet friendly. We are off to Gympie for the day, catch you all later.

Wednesday, June 2, 2010

Wow it’s over a week since we last blogged. Ness is making coffee- yeah coffee. Where do I start? Last week we were held up in Hastings Point doing our course as most of you know. We met some very nice people that we hope to stay in touch with at least until we use their place to stop for free hahaha.
The course was not a waste of money but did find it lacking in lots areas- Ness is asking why I am being diplomatic. We enjoyed parts of it, loved the people we met and the occasional drinking we did with different ones. Ness liked morning tea and when we finished for the day best. We had lots of laughs; I think the biggest thing we got out of the week was, we don't want to manage a park fulltime as we are far from being ready to settle. It did give us a crash course in OHS for the east coast, which a lot of it we had been away for its implementing. A workplace is a workplace and it needs to be safe for all. We did learn that The OHS laws are becoming federally universal by 2012, which will take out the adjusting when travelling and changing jobs. Anyway we learnt something and we have another piece of paper.
The cat was returned to us on Monday morning- we knew we would pay for the separation time but we didn’t expect the reaction that we got, Scarlia was mental! She jumped from window to window and meowed the loudest we have ever heard her. This behaviour didn't stop. We stopped north of the airport and gave her a drink and something to eat. She finished eating in no time, thinking that maybe they didn’t give her anything to eat in the morning this will settle her- no!!! It got worse. We stop for a toilet break and a look at the big pineapple and we could hear her meowing from 100m away. We had a good run very little traffic/road works, but a sooky cat was taking the fun out of the trip. When we were leaving the Big Pineapple, I put her on my lap- she settled. She stayed on my lap all the way to Murgon and we had no problems. She ate again and we fed her again before we went to bed. We did note that she was loosing weight but put it down to we hadn't seen her in a week. She is still crying when ever she can't see us both and is sticking close by when we are around; so the conclusion is we don’t know what happen at the kennels but she wont be going there again.
Arrived at Murgon around 4.00pm, drove to the council caravan park but it was closed. Michelle’s dad said that we could park out the front of his place for a while, so we have. Its Wednesday the 2nd June it’s as foggy as a horror movie quite except for some magpies. Michelle’s making some honey and banana muffins at the moment so I am allowed to touch the computer under supervision. There are quite a lot of wineries around Murgon so we went for a drive, went to the first one and it was closed, moved to the second one, it was closed I must be getting slow on the pick-up as the third one was closed as well. Murgon is about 40 km north of Kingaroy, in the South Burnett region, Murgon’s water comes from the Bjelke Petersen Dam. We are moving to Barambah Bush Caravan Park today just to the south east of Murgon, checked it out yesterday looks really nice. Going to do the house chores today washing, cleaning bla bla bla. But maybe not, Michelle’s dad just said that he will follow, yep not much to do in Murgon.

Musicoz Success Story: Porcelain | Musicoz

Here is a link to great group and they are from Wollongong- check them out.Musicoz Success Story: Porcelain | Musicoz

It's Raining!!!

Today we sit, I wouldn't say locked up by the weather but it has closed in and made everything very wet. We left Coffs Harbour behind on Friday and did one of our really exhausting trips of about 92kms to New Italy, an interesting museum but not a great place to stopover. They have a cafe that the minimum eftpos is $20. Along with 3 other vans and 3 mini-vans also a car or two, we settled in for the night. The toilets are behind the buildings (cafe and Museum) and it can be very dark, also make lots of noise so others can hear you coming. It rained very heavy during the night, yes that can be noisy but the worse part of it was the trucks as they drove pass, they blow their horns. No, it wasn't one of the better free camping sites.
We set off early on Saturday morning- straight after the coffee fix. We made it in to Bryon Bay about 10am, found a pet friendly park, hooked up power and water and was sitting in front of a great breakfast by 11am. We then wandered around the shops- not really interested as it is all for really skinny under 25 girls, Ness complained she didn't get the same service as this other young lady, I explained that she didn't have the haircut, the figure, the boobs oh and yes you are over 25. She was very disappointed. We also noted a lot more smokers in Bryon Bay but this could be cause there is a large number of under 25 females. It was decide to get back into the car and go for a drive. Lets go to Nimbin. So we went to Nimbin via Lismore. Nimbin is Nimbin, if you have not been to Nimbin you must go. It was the home of the Aquarius Festival in 1973-you all know peace, love, and flower power. Some of the hippies stayed and some created the cannabis museum, this large store has everything about cannabis: history, things made from cannabis, things made to use with cannabis and unofficially cannabis, it is located in the main street. Nimbin is also a great place to watch the colourful people of this world play their drums in the street catch some rays of sunshine or chatting with others. You either love it or...... Ness and I don't love it and we wouldn't live in the area but something about it draws you in again and again. Anyway we had a pleasant afternoon in Nimbin along with a busload of retirees and a bus load of backpackers not sure who was worse. Ness brought a great top and I brought a great book of poetry. It was back to Bryon, and attack the local woolies. Ness pretended to be 20 but couldn't do the giggle, and so we stood in line waiting patiently to be served, while the group of girls behind the older gentlemen and Korean young man got to start a new line as a young "flick the hair out of my eyes" man opened another register. The ohh to be young- nah don't really want to be.
So we had dinner and the rain started,it rained most of the night and the morning. We are moving on to Hastings Point this afternoon. The cat goes into the Kennels for a week today and we start our course tomorrow morning.
Catch you all later

"Be Content with what you have; rejoice in the way things are. When you realize there is nothing lacking, the whole world belongs to you. "

Lao Tzu

What have we been doing- oh yes the house was finalised yesterday, YEAH!! no more mortgage and we went for a lovely drive up the mountain to Dorrigo. A road with lots of signs "narrowing road", "road work ahead" "one lane only" and No Caravans but lots of big trucks. The road is called Waterfall Way- so lots of waterfalls. Most of these waterfalls you can't get close enough to take photos as there is no where to pull over. A lovely drive on a cold day. We stopped at Dorrigo to have an silent fight over something stupid, Ness had a Hot Chocolate and we both had scones for the cafe had a $15 eftpos minimum. A nice little town, where you can not help over hear very one's conversation about a recent car accident and a local died. It does have a junk shop which if it was open we would still be there- he had everything, from ashtrays to zebra statues. I'm sure some of the railway signs were originals, which may account for some close shaves with cars and trains. We were pretty sure he had just about every grandmother's collection of green glass bowls etc. Dangar Falls is very close to the town and it was pretty.
We then went to Dorrigo National Park. Walked on the skywalk, for all the other skywalks this one was free and in Ness's words pretty speckey. We did the canopy walk to look for all sorts of birds but we only found very noisy children and parents telling them to "be quiet you are scaring all the birds away" The rainforest was beautiful. The picnic area was empty and while we ate our lunch; lots of wrens, finches and bush turkeys joined us. It was too cold for anyone else to eat lunch out in the open. It was a lovely and the cold wouldn't have been that bad had I not forgot a jump/jacket.
Our next stop was a lookout called Griffith's Lookout. From this point you can see New England National Park and way off in the distance we could see Blue Knob (we had lunch last week) just poking its blue top above everything else. Then it was back down the hill, a little wave to the traffic controllers (ness making some little remark about standing out in the cold)and we made it back to the highway.

Today we went grocery shopping and to the local produce markets. Best curry puffs ever!! They were amazing delightful spicy scrumptious- yum. We will stop in Coffs again just for the curry puffs. That was about it- chatted with our german neighbours while their kids teased the cat. The ducks came for afternoon tea which puss didnt want to give them and the peewee's attacked her. So I think Scarlia is looking forward to moving on tomorrow until she gets in the car.

Catch you all later

Coffs Harbour

Ness is off shopping so I thought I would get this done. We had a lovely breakfast beside the harbour yesterday and then went for a walk along the break wall, decided not to walk up Mutton Island as it was a bit blowy and I wasn't feeling great. So instead we watched the fishermen with their balloons. They blow up balloons with helium tie them to their lines and the wind does the rest. It drags the lines out for hundreds of metres deep sea fishing without leaving the wharf. We also watched schools of young tuna feeding close to the wall- maybe be tuna, maybe not.

As both of us really wanted to go to Belligen and Dorrigo it was a bit disappointing that the sky was heavy with dark clouds but by the time we finished breakfast our walk, the sun was poking threw the clouds and blue sky was appearing, so off we went to the hills.

Some really nice homes in the Bellingen area. Belligen is a little like Bowral without the crowds and some of the shops we went into weren't too expensive. Lots of cafes I can imagine in Summertime it would be very busy. Not sure what they do for winter as there was a lot of staff not doing much. We had afternoon tea/coffee at the Butter Factory. Of course went for a wander around the shops but not a lot thou we both like the glass shop. We drove the tourist route home via Sawtell. Sat at the lookout watching some lovely storm clouds heading our way. Sawtell is very similar to Belligen boutique shops and the main street is very pretty.

Back for a quick walk along the beach, as the clouds came closer. As the evening approached the rain arrived and some thunder. It was very nice to go to bed with sound rain on the roof and low rubble of thunder.

This morning I still didnt feel so great so Ness and I did some catch up work- internet banking rang about the house etc. The house is not finalised till tomorrow? I say this with a question mark as I'm sure something else will come along to hold it up!! Ness rang her Mum and she spoke with Karen (WA) to tell her she really wanted her at her 40th Birthday. Yeah Karen is coming. Ness wanted me to tell you she cleaned the car but only the inside. She did a great job the perfectionist she is over the car.

So the cloud is moving again and I am going to get warm catch you all later.

Happy Birthday JL

Today is JL's birthday- not she will be reading this as she has probably not cleaned up her room and therefore has lost the internet privilege. Anyway Happy Birthday JL- hope you won your soccer match.
Today was a big drive a huge 109kms. Yes and we did it in one day. Ness thinks it was the worse bit of road so far including dirt. It was a 80km of patchwork- bitumen on cement cement on bitumen. We had planned to go to Coffs Harbour we just didn't realise how bad the road was going to be- patchwork quilt. The last 20kms was good- dual carriageway.
In Macksville we stop at a rest stop beside a garage along with 150 bikes. A large majority Harley Davidson's, the group was from Newcastle. All parked beside the petrol pumps, a couple of Jayco van people were not happy- they moved when asked so no problems. We passed another large group of bikes in another garage and on the road all with different emblems on their jackets.
Staying at a park near sapphire beach, dogs only they normally dont take cats but as the park was almost empty they agreed to Scarlia. Scarlia was very happy about that as she was very unhappy with todays trip. So this afternoon we have sat here watching the day go by- a family of 7 have moved in next door from Tassie. They are loving it as they get the pool to themselves, everyone else is wearing jumpers.
So thats about it today catch you later. Forgot message for Miss Penny GO THE CATS!
