Isn’t nice to be somewhere and it’s a public holiday, not a national holiday, only for Townsville. Monday was Show Day in Townsville, so Ness and I decide to go for a drive. We drove up the coast to find the “Brown Signs”.
Our first sign was Jourama Falls. A drive through the cane fields brought us to a small water crossing surrounded by trees. A lovely grass area with picnic tables and BBQs we continued along the road to another crossing and past the camping area, regretting we didn’t bring our camping gear. We park at the beginning of the walking trail. The walk was 3kms; first part was tar track even and a nice walk. Then it’s down some stairs and you climb over rocks crossing the creek, trying not to get wet feet. On the other side is sign 450m to falls. What they don’t tell you its uphill all the way- but it is mostly long steps so not to bad. We reach the falls and they were lovely. We stood looking at the falls and imaging what it is like during the wet season. Back to the car- with a wet foot, yes I fell slipped and wet up to mid calf. Back in the car and it was off to Tully.
A quick stop at Tully for coffee and a look at the map. We decide to go to Wallaman Falls, billed as the longest drop in Australia- 305m. We spent the drive trying to remember the height of a waterfall in Tassie- we couldn’t remember the name or how long the drop was either. The road was tar dirt and then tar again heaps of traffic, and of course the weather moved in rain and fog. We stood looking at the falls for about half an hour waiting for a break in the fog and of course get the photo. We got a couple of photos and now we were wet muddy cold. Lunch was in the car, no picnic’s today. Ness wanted to go back a different way. Looking at the map we could go back to the highway via Mt Fox Hidden Valley and Paluma. Yep we could still be out there; the Banjos were playing on the hills. The road was dirt and a number of hills, some of them were the pot holes. We have since been told that it is an area the army does training with live artillery. It is also a known area for a certain crop, we didn’t see any.
We finally reached Paluma. The fog was very thick. We made our way down the hill with a stop at Little Crystal Brook. It is very pretty even in the heavy rain. Another great day.
Today we did some work on the van, scrapping cleaning to prepare the A frame so we can paint when the weather is better. Toni (Ness’s mum) and Pete (Ness’s stepdad) are back tomorrow so we will make a trip to the Airport. Oh nearly forgot Ness starts her course tomorrow I think she is nervous. Catch you all later.
